An Economic Analysis of the Competitive Dynamics in the U.S. Fresh Blueberry Market, December 29 2020, by Thomas J. Prusa, PhD, Rutgers University
This study examines the factors that contribute to the price of fresh cultivated blueberries in the United States during the 2015-2020 period. The data demonstrates that the production and sales volumes of both domestic and import supplies have their own independent growing seasons and are better seen as complements than substitutes. In addition, the domestic industry has earned double-digit operating margins in every year of the period of the United States International Trade Commission (ITC) inquiry which compares very favorably to broader farm industry benchmarks.
